Rock Art Kondoa Irangi and Tarangire Safari – 5 days
Rock Art in Kondoa Irangi has spectacular collection of images from over 150 shelters many with a very high artistic value. The art rock display sequences that provide a unique testimony to the changing socio-economic base of the area from hunter-gather to agro-pastoralist societies. They also provide the testimony on the beliefs and ideas associated with them. Some of the shelters are still considered to have ritual associations with the peoples who live nearby.
Rock Art Kondoa Irangi Tour Program
Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater
Pick up from the hotel in Arusha at 06:00 am for the journey of 190 km to Ngorongoro Crater. As you arrive drive down the crater rim to the crater floor for a half day tour. The crater is home to many animals include the BIG FIVE (lion, elephants, black rhino, buffalo and leopard). Picnic lunch will be served at crater floor and after that will proceed with game drive before ascend the crater rim and back to Mto wa Mbu area for dinner and overnight at Twiga Lodge
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Breakfast in the hotel and leave for Tarangire National Park with packed lunch for game drive. Tarangire is fame for its large herds of elephants, buffaloes and the tree climbing pythons. During the dry season game drive is conducted along the banks of Tarangire Rivers which is only main source to the park. At this time you can easily spot predators chasing and killing their prey. Dinner and overnight at Lodge
Day 3: Tarangire to Kondoa Irangi
Early breakfast at the lodge, departs to Kolo area in Kondoa for a full day tour to explore the ancient rock art. The tour will start by visiting the Mongoni hill where you will see 3 sites B1, B2, and B3. The ancient rock art depict scenery of tribe life including ceremony, dancing and hunting. These Kondoa Irangi ancient rock arts are believed to be dated over 10000 years back. Picnic lunch will be served right at the area and after that you will drive to Pahi site to see more rock arts and paintings. At Pahi you will see the black and white paintings, symbolic art the work an early cattle keeper’s and farmers. In the evening you will drive to Kondoa town for overnight.
Day 4: Kondoa Irangi rock art
Today you will proceed with the rock art tour to Thawi sites which is located about 15 km northwest of Kolo and it has the overall collection of rock art in Kondoa. From Thawi you will proceed to Kandaga rock art sites. Late afternoon you will drive back to Kondoa town for overnight.
Day 5: Kondoa – Arusha
At 08:00 am, Start the journey back to Arusha with a short stop for lunch at Babati. After lunch proceed to with the journey to Arusha. Depends with your schedule we can transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for the onward flight back home.
